Preparing for a Meet

Getting ready the night before a swim meet is a good way to ensure you do not leave anything behind.
Prepare all your gear yourself as you the swimmer know exactly what you need.
Below is a checklist that you may find handy when getting ready for a swim meet:

Bag
Waterproof bag that is large enough so you can easily locate your items

Towel

You will need at least TWO towels as they become very wet over the day, and a cold towel will not be able to keep you warm or dry. You can use a chamois to dry yourself before you use your towel.

Togs

A snug well-fitting pair is best. Have a spare pair as a back-up with your gear. Make sure to check the regulations around racing togs, as these can differ at each swim meet.

Caps

Club caps are required when attending meets and representing the Club. Have a least one back-up cap with you. At times, the Team Manager will have some spare caps for emergencies on the day.

Goggles

Have a couple of pairs of goggles with you on the day, as goggles can break easily. Make sure to test out new goggles at training to ensure the fit is right prior to the swim meet.

Clothing

Bring warm and comfortable clothes that are easy to get on and off. A polar fleece rug can be handy. Team shirts are available. You need to ensure you have an extra change of clothes as a back up. Things tend to get rather wet at a swim meet!

Water Bottles
Always bring 1-2 water bottles with you to a meet. Electrolyte replacement can be handy, if it is a big meet. It's important to keep your fluids up throughout the meet.

Food

Easily digested food items such as canned rice puddings, bananas and nuts, are recommended. Remember to bring enough food to keep your energy levels up throughout the meet. Avoid high sugary foods such as lollies.
